More than 125 years of expertise in rolling plate

Salzgitter Mannesmann Grobblech GmbH can look back on more than 125 years of manufacturing experience and expertise. The first plate mill began operations at the Mülheim plant in 1882 and was soon joined by others.

Among the milestones in the plant’s development were the commissioning of a 4.5 m plate mill in 1897, the erection of a 4.8 m plate rolling train in 1956 and the construction in 1969/1970 of a 5 m rolling train to facilitate production of 56 inch pipes. At the time of their commissioning each of these rolling mills was the widest in Europe.

Thermodynamic rolling was introduced in Mülheim early in the 1970s, and since 1982 production has centered on the high-performance plate mill that has since been regularly modernized and now has a rolling width of 5.1 m. The mill can also roll exceptionally high quality grades of steel and is well equipped to meet both present and future demand.
