More than 50 years of experience in spiral-welded pipe
The idea of spiral-welding plate to produce steel pipe dates back to the end of the 19th Century. It took until the 1950s, however, before the technology had progressed sufficiently to ensure a reliable, high-quality product. A great leap forward in welding technology was needed.
Large-diameter spiral-welded pipe suitable to meet the highest quality standards has been produced in Salzgitter since 1959. The main customer is the international oil and gas industry.
In 1967, the company was awarded the approval for pipe production according to API 5L, and as early as 1970 it manufactured and supplied the first helically welded pipe in steel grade X 70.
The introduction of the Helical Two Step (HTS) process in 1987 and its ongoing refinements ever since, have been landmark achievements for the entire tube and pipe industry.
