Mannesmann Line Pipe GmbH

More than 100 years of steel line pipes

The name of Mannesmann has been a byword worldwide for the highest quality steel tubes for more than a century. In 1885 the brothers Reinhard and Max Mannesmann invented the first process for rolling seamless steel tubes and revolutionized the piping, engineering and vehicle construction industries. In 1897 the company also began manufacturing longitudinally welded steel pipe. Before long, pipes were being shipped throughout the world to carry water and build pipelines.

In the intervening years the production processes and corporate structures have developed and changed significantly. Under the umbrella of the Salzgitter Group, Mannesmann Line Pipe GmbH now combines the expertise of Mannesmann as the pioneer of steel pipes with the production activities of the two former competitors Hoesch and Fuchs. The company's plants in Hamm and Siegen complement each other ideally despite their differing roots.

The origins of the works in Siegen date back to the year 1918, when the Fuchs family acquired a factory in the region making sheet metal products and began to develop it into a pipe manufacturing business. In the 1950s Röhrenwerk Fuchs was the first to supply welded and plastic-sheathed gas pipes. Pipe production began in Hamm in 1965. The works were constructed by the then Hoesch Group to amalgamate its pipe production activities – also dating back to the start of the 20th Century – in a modern, efficient plant.

In the 1970s started the development, which finally amalgamated Mannesmann’s longitudinally HFI-welded steel tube and pipe with the works in Siegen and Hamm in Mannesmann Line Pipe GmbH:

1975
Hoesch acquires a 50% stake in the Fuchs family business based in Siegen, which in the 1980s was to introduce socketed water pipes and nipe clad with fiber cement
1993
Mannesmann and Hoesch combine their long-established line pipe and precision steel tube operations with the establishment of Mannesmann Hoesch Präzisrohr GmbH (MHP) based in Hamm and Mannesmann acquires 50% of the business in Siegen previously retained by the Fuchs family.
1996
Mannesmann acquires Hoesch´s stake in MHP and become sole owner of the company in Hamm.
2000
Line pipe production in Hamm is spun off from MHP under the name Mannesmann Line Pipe.
2004
Mannesmann becomes the sole owner of Röhrenwerk Gebr. Fuchs GmbH in Siegen
2006
Mannesmann amalgamates line pipe production in Hamm and Siegen under the name Mannesmann Fuchs Rohr GmbH
2008
